Creating a Custom Template

Summary

You can create your own custom template within Catina from any standard AIA template to save you time when starting a new project or agreement. You can create a custom template from the templates tab or while editing a document within a project.

 

Templates Tab

To create a custom template from the templates tab:

  1. Click the templates tab and select +Custom Template.
  2. Select which standard AIA Template you want to use and click Configure
  3. Name your custom template and click +Add Custom Template.
  4. This will open up the online editor for you to make any changes to your custom template.
  5. As you make additions or deletions, the box on the right-hand side will track any changes made to your custom template. If you want to accept any change, click the check mark next to the change and this will be applied to your document. Please note: all changes that have been resolved are applied to your document for all future use. You can also leave changes unresolved until you are ready to finalize your document within a project.
  6. When done editing your custom template, you can click the back arrow to go back to the projects tab. All changes to custom templates are automatically saved within Catina.
  7. When you are ready to create a new document using your custom template, you can click the +New button and select AIA Document. This will open up the selection tool and click the Custom Templates tab to show all custom templates within Catina.

 

Within a Project

To create a custom template while working within a Project:

  1. Click the Projects tab, select a Project, or create a new project.
  2. Once within the Project Hub, select +New Document.
  3. Select which standard AIA Template you want to use and click Configure
  4. Name your document and assign your project team as applicable, then click Create Document.
  5. This will open the online editor, allowing you to make any changes that apply to your custom template.
  6. When you are done making any additions or deletions to be represented in a custom template, click the three dots on your document toolbar and select Make a Copy
  7. Click the Custom Template option and name your custom template. You can choose to include variables or leave them out based on preference. When ready, click save.
  8. This will automatically save your custom template to your template tab, allowing you to continue making any additional changes to your project specific document.

1. Can I edit a custom template after it has been created?
Yes, you can edit a custom template after it has been created. Simply navigate to the Templates tab, open your custom template in the online editor, and make any necessary changes. All edits are automatically saved within Catina.

2. What happens if I leave changes unresolved while editing a custom template?
Unresolved changes will remain in the document until you are ready to address them. You can finalize the changes at any time by clicking the check mark next to each change, applying them to the template for future use.

3. Is it possible to include or exclude variables when saving a custom template?
Yes, when saving a custom template, you have the option to include or exclude variables from the original document. This flexibility allows you to tailor the template to your specific needs.
